SISEP

Scout International Student Exchange Program

The Scout International Student Exchange Program (SISEP) is an initiative of Scouts Australia for 15-17 year olds. Being an international exchange student is the experience of a lifetime. Living as a member of a family in an overseas country such as England, Denmark or Japan will open your eyes to how other people see the world, the foods they eat, their lifestyle, recreation and work habits.

The following quotes contain messages common in responses from participants: "The very best thing I ever did in Venturing" and “If you’ve ever wanted to be an exchange student and you’re a Scout, I highly recommend the Scout Student Exchange Program."

To learn more about SISEP please email the SA Branch Co-ordinator at sisep@sa.scouts.com.au

Host Families for SISEP Needed

Applications to participate as a host family are invited from families who have a son or daughter in Venturers. Venturer aged Scouts from Japan, Denmark and the United Kingdom require host families for around six weeks in July and August, as well as a willing school and an active and Venturer Unit.

Host families do not receive any subsidies except the pleasure of welcoming someone into their home and having an international experience "in their own backyard".

Applications to be a host family need to be submitted by mid-February 2014. For a detailed information package on being a Host Family and for a Host Family application form, go to the Scouts Australia website, International tab.

More information

It is beneficial for a Venturer planning to go on exchange to be part of a host family first.

Expression of Interest

SISEP is just about the best value for money you will find. Payment includes airfare, insurance and a contingent fee. Those travelling to England and Denmark also enjoy several days at the end of their exchange as a Group in London; however there is a separate accommodation cost for this.

Exchange students leave Australia around the end of November and return mid-January. More information and an Expression of Interest form can be found on the Scouts Australia website under the International tab. All SISEP participants are expected to host an International Scout. It is preferred that your family hosts an International Scout first, before departing Australia to complete your exchange. Information on being a host family is available on the SISEP website with the Expression of Interest.
